A Drowning in the River Stour at Alderminster 1905
In the churchyard at St Mary and the Holy Cross in Alderminster there is a grave containing the bodies of two brothers Francis George and Amos Richard Plumb who were sadly drowned in a swimming accident in June 1905,
The memorial to the two brothers is described in an article from the Stratford on Avon Herald of November 9th 1906 as follows:
MEMORIAL.-A very handsome memorial of unique design has been erected in Alderminster churchyard to the memory of Francis George and Amos Richard Plumb, the only sons of Francis and Elizabeth Plumb of Broomfield. The memorial, which is of the best hard Sicilian marble is in the form of a wheel cross and two bases, the cross being beautifully carved with passion flowers in high relief. it rests on a massive York stone landing with kerbing enclosing the grave space upon which is fixed a set of ornamental pillars and chains; the whole presenting a very substantial appearance. It will be remembered the two brothers were accidentally drowned at the same time while bathing in the river Stour on June 28th 1905. The bereaved parents desire to thank all those kind friends who subscribed.
