The Parish Council members are elected every four years, the last election being held on 1st May 2008. Parishioners were invited to stand for election and notices and forms for completion by prospective candidates were available during March 2008. The Parish Council consists of 7 members and as only 4 nominations were received by the qualifying date those 4 candidates will be 'elected' by default. As there are less than 7 councillors then the Parish Council do have the power to co-opt to make up the number. If you would like to be considered for one of these vacancies then please let the Clerk or one of the Councillors know as soon as possible.
The Parish Clerk is the paid employee of the Parish Council and in the case of Alderminster the Clerk is also the Responsible Finance Officer. In Alderminster the Clerk is a part-time employee whereas in larger parishes and in towns the Clerk may well be a full time employee. The Clerk is responsible for the administration of the Parish and for keeping the accounts of the Parish.
The members of the Parish Council are bound by a strict Code of Conduct and severe penalties can be imposed on members who breach this code. The Monitoring Officer at Stratford District Council oversees the Code of Conduct on behalf of the Standards Board.
The Parish Council set a budget each year in January and based on this budget set a precept for the financial year which commences on the 1st April. The District Council will collect this money through the Council Tax and pass it on to the Parish Council in two separate payments in April and September. These monies are to pay for the administration of the Parish Council, to fund local projects, purchase various items of street furniture, and many other uses which are set down in various statutes. The Parish Council accounts are audited both by a locally appointed Internal Auditor and an External Auditor appointed by the Audit Commission. Electors have the right to inspect the accounts and a notice will appear on this website under 'News' when the audit date has been set by the External Auditors, giving full details.
