Alderminster

Welcome to the Alderminster Parish Council Website

The Olympic Torch Relay is coming through Alderminster!

We need your help!

On the day the torch relay comes through the village we need some volunteers to act as stewards to hold back any crowds that might come to the village to watch the procession come through. If you could help with this duty you will receive training and a hi-viz jacket. Please contact the clerk on info@alderminster-pc.gov.uk or any parish councillor if you would be able to help.

As many of you will have read in the press, the Olympic Torch Relay is due to visit Alderminster on Sunday 1st July 2012. It will be in the village along the main road from 2.29pm for about 10-15 minutes. According to the official LOCOG website we will have four runners coming through the village, one from Norton North Yorkshire, One from Worcester and One from Southam and one from Johannesburg, South Africa. The Olympic Torch Relay organisation (known as LOCOG) are encouraging local communities to celebrate this once in a lifetime event and hope that local communities will join in by organising an 'event' in the villages and towns that the torch will visit. Plans are now well under way for three schools to come to the village to see the torch. Ilmington School are hoping to come to sing their song especially created for them and the Olympics called 'Rings around the World'. This song has been recorded and is now available to purchase as a CD. For more details please follow this link www.ringsaroundtheworld2012.co.uk. The children will occupy the grass area in front of the church which will be cordoned off. Ettington School are hoping to come and perform a dance especially created for the Olympics. This will take place on J.H. Thorp's car park. Finally Loxley School are hoping to attend to wave their olympic torches. They will be positioned somewhere near to the Ilmington schoolchildren. We have been informed that all residents will receive letters advising them not to park vehicles on the road or the roadside verges. Any found in these positions will be towed away. No waiting signs will be put out along the main road on both sides the night before the procession is due. We are also told that refuse bins must not be put out until after the procession has passed through the village. These are security issues that must be adhered to. The procession will only occupy one side of the road so for the best view it would be advisable to stand on the church side of the the A3400. Car parking for visitors to the village will be at the top of New Road and disabled parking will be available at the village hall where no other parking will be allowed. Teas etc will be served in the village hall before and after the event. Unfortunately no one can give any idea of the numbers that might come to our village to watch this relay. The whole event throughout the UK will be televised on the 'red button' so we might get some idea of the numbers by watching what happens in similar places before it comes to our village. Further details will be published on the website as they are known.

A REQUEST FROM THE EMERGENCY SERVICES

The Emergency Services have requested that all householders make sure that their property is adequately 'named or numbered' so that in the event of an emergency the property can be located quickly. It is difficult in a rural area to find properties and in an emergency this can be critical where saving life is concerned. Satnavs generally only register postcodes and some postcodes cover a large area such as in Alderminster.

COMMUNITY FIRST RESPONDERS

Alderminster is included in the Ettington First Responder Scheme. Further details of this voluntary organisation can be found by following the link http://www.ettingtoncfr.org.uk .
